Trebuchet
From Slinging.org Wiki
One other machine of old that followed from the sling in natural progression was the Trebuchet.
The Trebuchet was a machine of war enabeling attacking forces the ability to lay seige to castles and towns without having to contend with counter attacks by enemy archers etc. since the Trebuchet's range exceeded that of the archers.
Trebuchets used gravity to launch their payload by using a ingenious system of a counter weight attached to the one end of a beam and the sling on the other end. The beam in turn was supported by a frame wich allowed the beam to hinge around an axle. Africa_Slinger
A trebuchet is, in essence, a giant wooden machine that slings a boulder using a giant sling casting with an overhand style. However, due to their enormous size, trebuchets take much longer to reload than slings. Altay
