Slinging Books In Translation

From Slinging.org Wiki

We have been given permission to translate and host some books that have been published in other languages. I'm hoping that putting this project on the wiki will help get the ball rolling. I've set up duplicate pages in the original language and in english - please only make edits to the english language copies. At first, the unedited english pages will load untranslated. As more and more gets converted, they will become easier for people to read, and we can edit the english language copies for readability and cohesion. I'll try to come up with a marker system to let readers and editors know what sections are untouched, in progress, completed and finalised. Copyright in all cases remains with the original authors - thanks to all for permission to include your hard work!

Translation tools:

www.comprendium.es seems to work pretty well for Catalan. The best way to use it seems to be to point the tool at the Catalan original wikipage. I cut and paste the result into notepad, but opening a second browser window is another option. The text that comes out is slightly better than average for free web-translation, but still needs considerable rework. In most cases, paraphrasing the section you are working on will be better than trying for a word-for-word translation!

L'Art de la Bassetia - Aprenentatge i ensenyança del tir de fona

Vicente from the Federacio Balear de Tir de Fona and the author have graciously allowed us to host a copy of L'Art de la Bassetia - Aprenentatge i ensenyança del tir de fona, an introductory instruction manual for slingers. The book is written in Catalan. I encourage members with an interest in languages, knowledge of Catalan, Spanish or Portugese, or lots of time and some web-based translation tools to come take a look at the book and help produce an english copy.

Historia de la Honda

Our very own Jesús Vega Hernández (Hondero) has written Historia de la Honda - "The History of the Sling" in Spanish, and has agreed to let us translate and host a copy in English. We'll be working through this one chapeter by chapter. Once one section is finished and approved, we'll move on to the next. Hondero has published the book in pdf format on his webpage - http://perso.wanadoo.es/hondero/historia.htm
